How long does it take to get ripped six pack abs? Well there is no definite answer to that question because it varies from person to person. Your ‘six pack abs’ will be visible once you have lost enough of the fat that is covering them and how defined your abs will be is determined by the quality of training you did.  Someone can be really skinny but not have that defined look because their muscle mass is virtually non-existent. This is why starvation diets and a sole focus on weight loss instead of fat loss is a losing strategy. To achieve great six pack abs you need a solid foundation of muscle with low body fat percentage.

How low a body fat percentage do you need? Again it varies. I have seen estimates for men ranging from as low as 8 to as high as 11 percent and for women between 9-12%. So how long it will take to get six pack abs is dependent on where you are currently at. How fast you can shed this body fat relies on your willpower to stick to a clean diet and your consistency in the gym. Don’t take this to mean you should never eat or that you need to work your abs every single day in order to get a six pack because these kinds of measures will only hinder your progress.

Getting a great body is a marathon and not a sprint. It didn’t take a few days or even weeks to gain all of that fat and so it won’t be removed that quickly unless you are already close. Don’t let this discourage you though because it can be done with time. Crash dieters and others that are looking for short term results will soon lose their gains but those who make significant changes to their diet and exercise routine will see results that can be maintained for the long haul. Setting both long term and short term goals will keep you on the right path to getting a six pack but how well you stick to them will determine how quickly you get ripped.
